This authoritative article by Richard Maund was originally published as a book by the Welsh Highland Heritage Group but it is now out of print. Instead of reprinting, the article is now being made available as a free pdf download. It unravels the complicated history of this crossing where standard gauge and narrow gauge met, and of course do so again today on the reconstructed Welsh Highland Railway.
An updated version of the original book is now available for download. It includes the results of the latest researches on the subject and an appendix by Edward Dorricott on the date of the Cambrian signal box. See the links below.
The book was very favourably reviewed on publication – read a review of the first edition of Chronicles of Croesor Crossing.
